When we crossed the border into Peru I was completely unprepared for the reed islands in Puno. A whole community of people living traditionally on manmade islands in Lake Titicaca. The reeds are gathered when the roots become loose from the lake bed and float to the surface. The islands are tethered and support a whole community. From here we travelled to Cusco by train, enjoying the luxury of 1st class travel. We toured some of the Inca sites of the Sacred Valley in our build up to Machu Picchu. No matter how many photographs you see, nothing can prepare you for the magnificence of Machu Picchu.
